LA MARQUE, Texas – A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston. The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.

The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist. The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.

Gilchrist said he doesn’t know if the car was salvageable, but in his words, “Salt water isn’t good for anything.” He says the man, whose identity hasn’t been released, was not injured.

Q: A question about Wrestlemania 25, tickets, seating and the stadium.?
I’m going to be at Wrestlemania 25 in Houston Texas and am looking forward to it very much as I’m coming over from the UK so its a holiday and a dream come true. There’s a couple of questions I’d like answered please. Serious answers only please. First of all the tickets I purchased are A4 size and look different from tickets for sale on ebay, I’ve been assured there genuine. Anyone else seen or heard of these tickets and also, could I ring up the stadium and check the barcode to see if its genuine? Secondly the seating arrangements, we’re going to be located in vip riser 124. We’re told these are elevated so will have a clear view over people situated in ringside seats, is this true and is there any place online apart from the reliant stadium website, where we can view what these type of seats look like? I think they are erected by the WWE themselves. Finally the parking available at Reliant Park for the event, is it free for an unlimited time or will we have to pay for the duration we’re parked there while we’re at the event? We want to take our hire car so there’s no problems after the event getting back to the hotel. Your help would be appreciated people. Q: Diesel Fuel Sales at US Gas Stations?
I have recently been reading gas station pumps. As gas goes higher in costs, I believe the pumps are getting slower. I noticed on a recent Valero Gas Station Pump in Houston, Texas that is says “Diesel Fuel” is not intended for highway vehicles as it pertains more than 500 ppm of sulphur. Okay this got me wondering, most diesel cars and trucks are using the highways, expecially in the inner and outer loops around major cities (there are i=Interstate of Highways).

So I again started thinking, hmmm, maybe this is meant only for farm equipment and other types of diesel engines. Just then a black mercedes pulled up, and the man starting pumping the same diesel into his car.

Okay, what’s up with this one? I know my Explorer says not to use anything higher than a 87 Octane, I and am now seeing gas stations selling 86 octane gas. Is it me, or is there something wrong with gas stations selling Diesel fuel and lower grades of Octaane hoping us consumers don’t pay attention to it?

A: It certain states they do sell gas with lower Octane ratings. Buyer beware, I personally would never use anything lower than what my vehicle’s driver’s manual says. Especially if your vehicle is a sports car, since the tunning is specified for a certain type of octane.

As far as diesel is concerned. There is a lower emmision diesel fuel which just came out late last year/early this year. However, I do not believe the oil companies would both have the new diesel formula and old diesel formula available, it’s not cost effective.

But also here’s another interesting fact about farm/train diesel and one used by regular vehicles-THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. The big difference is that diesel fuel that cars, truck use is that we pay federal, state and local transportation taxes on them, and diesel used for farms, trains, etc. do not have to pay that type of tax.

But it’s the same diesel, you will notice a pink tinge(a dye that they put into the diesel) to non-taxed diesel, this basically alerts authorities that this gas is not taxed and cannot be used by cars, trucks on public roads.

As far as the pumps being slower, I don’t know, some stations I go to have slow pumps, while others seem quicker. Maybe they want you to go inside and buy something.

A: what about walking dogs for people? My girls do that and make good money. they put up posters in our local grocery store and that is how they find customers. They love dogs and walking so it works out very good. They charge $1.50 for a walk around the block and $2.50 to take the dog to the park and play fetch for 10 minutes and then walk them back.

Also running errands or doing housework for an older person who might not be able to do it for themselves.

So i too think this is a scam because everytime i respond to her i get the same e-mail response and no phone number. Here is the problem my car was up for sale for about 4 months and one day I noticed that all cars are missing from there lot and I called and 2 days later they called back saying someone broke into the cars there so they moved everybodys car. (Over 100 cars) . I trusted them becuase they have sold my car before. 2 weeks later I call and see if they have a buyer at there other lot where they said they put all the cars and the owner said yes and we actaully receive a check and waiting for it to clear for 5 days, so I went up there signed the title and gave them both spare and regular key. After the 5 days the lady hasnt called so I called and no answer and another 7 days later after constant calling and no return on when I will receive my check I threatend to call the police for theft and hearing from somone in my town that the business went under and some other guy was in the same position and cant get his money. So I called the DA;s office and they said they have had over 50 complaints and trying to resolve this issue by getting everybodys money. Finally I get a call from the ex-husband (Daughter and Mother are the owners) that the buisness went under and they sold my car and he is trying to sell some property to give to his daughter to give everybodys money back and will take up too 17 days and I asked if they did sell my car he said yes and I asked where my money was and he said he hasnt figured that out yet… Here is the last issue there is no way they sold over 100 cars in 2 weeks… What are my legal rights and what can I do to get my money? THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Q: Do I have to pay sales tax on a vehicle in Houston TX that I plan to resale?
I have recently purchased a 2005 Chevy 2500HD for $11,300 in the state of Maryland that I am waiting to have shipped down to Houston TX. I purchased the truck under the assumption that I was losing my company car. Recently I have found out that I get to keep my company car and have no use for the Chevy truck. NADA trade in on the truck is $19,300.00. I safely feel I can at least break even or mostly make a profit on the truck. I plan on receiving the truck in Houston and then immediately resale the vehicle. I will take it to Carmax if I have to. Is there a way to get around paying the 6.25% sales tax on purchased vehicles if I strictly resale the truck? i.e. – I do not title it in my name, or I obtain a resale certificate, or etc…???

A: I am not sure about in TX, but in my state you have to have a tax id in order to purchases things with the purpose of resale and not pay taxes on them. You would however have to pay sales take when you sold it if this is the case.

A: Putting $1,000 down on an $14-$18K used car isn’t very much, and with no credit, your rate will probably be around 10% for a used car like that. As for tax, title document fees, they tend to run about $200-$350, depending on the dealer and what’s involved.

The date of sale to me on the title is June 1 2009.
However, I have since moved to NY but have not yet registered the car. I think their are some penalties involved. My question is, do I have to register the car in my name before I can sell it or trade it in, or can I trade it in without registering it? A: We get this question a lot. You MUST register the car in your name before you can sell or trade it in. Until you register it in your name it really does not belong to you so you can not legally sell it. It’s not your property, therefore you can not give a buyer a CLEAR title.

Although your brother signed the car over to you he is still the registered owner of record on the Texas DMV records because you haven’t completed the transfer by registering it in your name. The simple reason is that each time a car is sold the state wants some money, and you’ll have to pay sales tax on the $500.

A: With 18 and no credit, you wont be buying even a $5000 car without more than $1000 down unless you have a cosigner with good credit.

People with sub prime credit pay from 21-29% interest and overpay for the car by 10-200%.

Your chances of buying a $14.000 car with $1000 down are ZERO without a cosigner with good credit.

Im not sure you could buy a $14,000 car with $4000 down at 29%.

A: The nice thing about the internet is it often allows you to see the Toyota dealer inventories. Certain volume Toyota dealers have limited markup and knowing which ones in your area that are reasonable certianly helps.

Another good source of pricing info is CARMAX before deciding which Toyota dealer to begin negotiating (recommend starting like Wed of 3rd week just before end of month bec yes they do have quotas & targets) but with maximum information you should know which dealer to visit 1st that has maybe several (2 or 3 of your choices) in his actual inventory… I had gotten BEST PRICE based on having possession of facsimiles and email price quotations from Toyota dealers where Sales manager where we visited saw I was well prepared and wanted to make end of month sale so he didn’t let us leave and even allowed us to call other dealer right in front of him, but we of course couldn’t disclose their fantastic price. I have done the whole neon thing man and really, it was more hassle than it was worth. I got pulled over three times, then they kept breaking. They caused me more grief than pleasure. I just purchased a used car from a dealer in Houston, TX. No warranty but paid $5K for it and have had to put another 5K in repairs in the first month. Any recourse I can take? A: Unless the title says “salvage” you did not buy a salvage car. You bought a piece of junk, but not salvage. Any recourse? No, you bought a used car and used cars are always AS-IS unless you have a written warranty. In the future always take the car to a mechanic before you buy.

STEP ONE: Insure vehicle with Texas policy
STEP TWO: Get vehicle inspected (just about every auto shop, oil change place, or tire company offers these) and get a ‘Green Slip’. Take great care of this Green Slip that they will give you.. it’s basically the official certification that your car is in good enough condition to be registered here. Don’t bend it, fold it, let it get crinkled, ANYTHING.
STEP THREE: Go to the DMV or County Clerk and pay your fees. You’ll have to pay for new resident if you’re just moving here, which is about $90, plus $50 for the registration fee, state taxes, and plate fee.. all in all, it’s around $280 just to them.

And then you’re done!

Okay so here’s what happened. I was driving my car even though my registration and inspection were expired. I ran out of gas and pulled my car onto the shoulder of the freeway. I immediately called 911 and they dispatched two officers who took down the license plate number and registered the car as stolen. With no gas in the tank, however, the only logical explanation is that whoever “stole” it had a tow truck to move it with.

I didn’t inform the officers that the vehicle registration had expired. Not to mention, the car title AND my vehicle registration renewal letter were both in the glove box of the vehicle.

My question is, even though the VIN# has been reported stolen, is there a chance it was still towed? The fact that it was parked on the shoulder of the freeway and the registration was expired(meaning there was, at the time, no registered owner) would have qualified it as abandoned, but would it not have turned up already seeing as how it’s been reported as stolen? If it was towed, is the reason it hasn’t been registered in the city’s system as towed due to the fact that the registration is expired? And who would I contact to find out exactly where my car is, if it was towed and not registered, and how to get it back?

Q: What is the best online medium for selling a used car?
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SES in great condition with 114k miles that I am trying to sell. I have tried the Houston Chronicle and have had no luck there. I have had a few responses via Craigslist but no one serious enough to make an appointment to see the car.

Out of places like autotrader, cars.com, vehix.com, etc., which site gets the most traffic and would be most likely to sell my car? Any other online sales suggestions would be appreciated.

A: How are you managing the leads you do get?

The reason I ask is that if not handled correctly it will not matter how many calls come in…and it only takes one to sell the car.

Sellers often get too caught up in trying to sell the car when someone calls in. The focus should be to give as little information about the car as possible, yet just enough to make the caller want to see it. The goal of the conversation should be to get the appointment to see the car…the car will sell itself if the customer is there.

Craigslist is excellent and free. Autotrader.com is very popular in Texas…online as well as in print and would be the best form of advertising in that region.

Q: advertising, i need some advertising ideas for my business?
i have a use motorcycle shop in houston, my shop is behind my house so all my business is word or mouth. i am also about to pick up car and truck acc, and wheels and tires. i use craigslist and cycletrader and post my items on myspace. besides ebay does anyone know of any good ways to advertise. i aslo have financing availiable. that helps my sales. i need to get my name out there……thanks

A: Ads in local newspapers can be quite inexpensive. You could put up flyers in local supermarkets, churches, etc., and even see if you can put up a sign in local automotive/motorcycle dealerships, automotive parts stores, and other places where potential customers can see it. If you don’t have a sign out in front of your house, you should think about putting one out there. And if you can join the local chamber of commerce, that’s a good way to network potential customers.

I was going to put in 2002, which is probably more in the price range you listed, but the cost to own detail only goes back to 2004.

People with sub prime credit pay from 21-29% interest and overpay for the car by 10-200%.

Your chances of buying a $14.000 car with $1000 down are ZERO without a cosigner with good credit.

Im not sure you could buy a $14,000 car with $4000 down at 29%.

Q: The dealership can’t get title to my vehicle (MSO)?
I purchased a used BMW back in March of this year and the dealership still can’t get title. I’ve been driving around in this car that I’m paying highly for and am at the end of my rope. I want to take the car back so they can give me a car that I can get a title to but mostly I just want to leave the car there. I travel around Houston quite a bit for work purposes and am afraid that If I am injured in a car wreck (on my time or work) that my insurance wont cover it and know for certain the dealership wont either.

What can I do? The sales manager said they could get me some aftermarket items for the car but that isn’t what I want – I feel that I have been inconvienced more than enough by driving under those conditions not to mention the time, energy and effort to get in touch with the dealership every 20 days to get a replacement tag. There have been plenty of times where they failed to send me the temp tag and I have been forced to sit at home or drive with expired tags in fear that I will get a ticket.

A: Contact the DMV and ask about the situation. Call the better business bureau and report the issue. Contact an attorney you may be making payments on a car that is not nor will ever be yours. The attorney can give you more info. plus the dealership may be liable to pay you back his fee (some offer free consults) and for your time.
